The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team might be building a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
